Kari Auringer’s desire to launch a career as a winemaker started in the mid-1990s while working in the advertising industry. Her passion for wines lured her to the bay area during the dot.com frenzy with the ultimate goal of buying a vineyard and moving to Napa or Sonoma.
She was determined to make the transition from marketing wine, designing wine labels and drinking great wine to her ultimate goal of making award-winning wines.
She purchased half a ton of grapes and a book on winemaking, and embarked on a whole new adventure. Experimenting with winemaking at home, and began working with some of California’s great winemakers while financing herself through enology program which includes A.S. Degrees in Viticulture and Winemaking, wine marketing and sales at Napa Valley Collage. She then escalated her education by completing courses at UC Davis.
Kari describes herself as a hands-on winemaker and gladly immerse myself in all aspects of the winemaking process from vineyard to bottle. “My style is one that has me routinely rolling up my sleeves and staying intimately involved with every step of the intricate process, from vineyard sourcing and hands-on berry sorting through the countless details of winemaking, sensory analysis and the infinitely nuanced art and science of blending. If you don’t find me tasting barrel samples in the winery, I am probably out kicking the dirt in a vineyard”
Kari is the winemaker for Napa-based Silver Trident Winery, crafting Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé of Pinot Noir, Russian River Pinot Noir, and Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Also award-winning wines for Sonoma-based BRYTER Estates, including Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and Rosé, and Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. She also makes an ultra premium Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Sonoma County Rosé for Pedras Wines. She is also the wine maker at Cornerstone Cellars.
Kari has been named a rising star. Her success is a combination of her passion, hard work, dedication, talent, and amazing people skills.
As she quotes, “Making wine is definitely a team sport”
